My cup isn't half full… it's overflowing

If you read this blog at all you know I am a bad blogger and I am always behind in my updates… that is the last time I will say it. From here out, just expect my posts to be long and spread out. Now…*AHEM*

Well, we are 18 days into the dead year; you know… the year the world ends. (I freak my students out every time I say this. I pretty much have a countdown until the zombie apocalypse… because that IS whats going to happen.)

Anyways, my 2012 resolution is to not eat out as much as I have been (hopefully to finally get through 30 days of no eating out - soo hard!!!) and to freaking finish this list before we expire. I really need to kick my butt into gear by the looks of it. Can I extend my “due date”? I guess I should just play by the rules and see how much I can actually finish. I blame pintrest and castleville for blinding me with their awesomeness. Before you judge me on the whole castleville thing… I WAS 38^th IN THE WORLD! It was my duty to maintain my ranks, if not climb higher within castleville royalty.

You will need to forgive me. My mind is jumping all over the place and therefore you will be too as you read my words. Just try and follow along. OK. Great.

So much catching up to do! And so many weddings! (ok, just two – Emily/Andrae & Thomas/Liz… but they are my best friends ever… and really, that’s a lot of “OMG- WEDDING!”)

Time to cross things off the list:

#4 – rescue an animal. I may have reworded this one, but it still applies. I got my brothers dog, Lizzy. He gave her to me for Christmas (after two year of asking). She is a Silver Lab (I know, I know, silver is not a recognized Lab color. Well go bite your pinky finger. She is a Lab and she is silver and she is AKC registered chocolate). Lizzy went from fulltime outside pup to fulltime spoiled rotten inside dog who loves cuddling, getting belly rubs, and playing with riley (emily's dog), leeloo (michelle's dog) and Carmen (lizzy’s sister, a cat).

#37 – Get paid to take pictures. I WAS PAID TO TAKE PICTURES!!! Thank you Aubrey, Matt, & Liam! Some of the lovely pictures follow:

#39 – Get my teaching certificate! Done! Now I just need to pay to put my other 5 certified areas on it (all together will be: life science 8-12, math 8-12, math/science 4-8, ESL K-12, Ag Technology 6-12) I am so awesome.

#53 – Watch the sunrise and set in the same day. I do this all the time: go to work – see the sun rise; go home from work – see the sunset. I have to say that I enjoy the sunrise a lot more than I enjoy the sunset. Maybe it is the crisp feeling of the morning or just the idea of a brand new day. There are normally more clouds in the morning too, and that always adds a dramatic effect. Writing and thinking about this makes me really want to add “see an aurora borealis” to my list. Some day. One day.

#58 – get 8 hours of sleep in the same month. DECEMBER I slept like a… dog. SO MUCH SLEEP TIME. I did not want to go back to school/work because I knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep ‘til 8/9am anymore. I should be sleeping now instead of writing this, but I slept so much last month that now I am super charged! (ha… if only).

#97- Delete unwanted pictures from computer. Organize photos on external hard drive. I couldn’t believe how many pictures I actually had taken. And more than half of them were completely pointless – can’t wait to dig into my photo files in 5-10 years and make fun of myself.

#77 – Featured photos for October, November, & December:

October… Steven and I met half way in New Orleans!! We spent a BEAUTIFUL day in the French Quarter

November… I took "christmas" pictures for Jessica & Kyle. I fell in love with their wiener dog.

December… I set up a photo booth for our NYE party. Needless to say it was a huge success.

I only have 50 more things to do. I have a feeling my list might be changing again soon.

ONE more YEAR

Thats all I have left.

That's all WE really have left thought, right? Since the world is ending in December 2012? Ok so really a year and 3 months… the countdown's already begun.

But I only have ONE YEAR left until my sand runs out; until the last petal falls; until my time is up. 1001 days - gone, over, the past. I still have ONE YEAR left. THAT terrifies me. Where did my days go? As I review my list, I have to ask myself - WHY haven't I done more?? WHY am I waiting? WHAT am I waiting for?? And then it gets depressing. If THAT is how I want to live my life, why am I not? I picked these goals. I set them in front of me. WHY do I find myself not able to "make time" to do what I WANT to? This goes on and on and on and creates a very silly circle of crazy uninspiring loops. Time to move my cheese myself (Who Moved My Cheese - read it if you haven't).

Ok I am done venting. I am once again focused on my AWESOME 101 list.

I did this some weekend in August (2011). I was not in the mood to do anything. So I opened iTunes and went to work. Now every song has a title, artist, genre, and cover art. :) my music is happy.

81. Drop something I “have” to do

So I bought A&M season tickets. WHOOP. We already knew that. What you didn't know is that I didn't even go to the first game. NOPE. I really wanted to and felt like I HAD to (you know, because I'm an Aggie, and because I paid out the a$$ for the tickets.) but I didn't go. At the very last minute (the night before) I decided to go to Sam Rayburn lake with my Dad, Gpa, Steven, Caitlin and Wim. We were going to go fishing. We left before the vampires fall asleep for the day and drove 3 hours… just to find out that it was WAY too windy and we couldn't put the boat in the water. NO FISHING :( so we watched the Matrix, grabbed something to eat (had the BEST banana pudding), and drove 3 HOURS back home. I missed my first Aggie game as a season ticket holder, but I definitely got to spend some quality time with my family :) (still wish we went fishing… I would have loved the stories)

85. Stop at a green light

So I am working on my CDL… so I can drive a BIG YELLOW BUS. Yep - Thats just something that comes along with being a tennis coach. I feel like I am learning to drive all over again. Only its not in the "green monster" it in a FREAKING SCHOOL BUS!!! Well I get nervous REALLY easy and my first time off the parking lot my trainer had me practicing right turns. (just FYI… I always ran over curbs in my truck and the school bus is like twice its size. Talk about a heart attack!) Well I was coming to a light (green) and I stopped… I didn't want to turn. I eventually slapped myself in the face and told myself not to be such a pansy. I turned the bus to the right AND I didn't hop the curb!! BONUS!! I am going to be a beast at driving busses!

I did something I think is against the rules. I changed my list. BLASPHEMY! In my defense, a LOT changes in 18 months and so, well, it morphed right along with life.

Aside from all the changes – a lot really has happened. It has been a very productive, exciting, relaxing summer.

*I finally used the gift certificate my dad got me for Christmas for a private handgun lesson and a concealed handgun class. I was a pretty good shot and I’ll only get better. I mailed off all my material a week ago. Now I just need a gun… daddy ;) Get my CHL #31 – check.

Thats 50 rounds... I am pretty damn proud of myself gents.

READING (#11) I read the first two books of The Hunger Games trilogy – addicted. Best part… I read them on a nook. I really really really want one now – THEY ARE SO AWESOME! I FEEL SO POWERFUL WHEN I CAN HOLD A WHOLE LIBRARY IN MY HANDS! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA….. I don’t know why that is evil – just go with it.

I think it was number pro #3 that finally pushed me to wax my whoha. Also, Emily said it wasn't that bad.

I am pretty sure that waxing was worse that child birth... given if they happened for the same amount of time. I felt like my skin was ripped from my body. AND it was supposed to be the "ouchless" kind. MY ASS! I cannot handle pain. so sensitive. I am crying thinking about it. Kidding. But seriously, pain.

5 - Something I would normally say NO to... Saturday night was Kelsey's graduation. She is a MASTER! SoWally, Kelsey's brother, talked me into shotgunning a beer. He also told me to puncture the can with my vampire like teeth. HA. It went all over my face (thats what she said) and then I couldn't pop the top when they started. I finished a good 5 seconds after everyone. Hey it was my first time... I know what to expect now... even though it probably wont happen again. Beer is yucky. But I find to be drinking it a little more than I use to.

#5 - Plant a tree. My little tangerine tree. Perfect spot - right outside the kitchen in the atrium/porch area.

grow a garden. Emily and I planted poppies and three different kinds of summer flower mixes (blue, pink and yellow). I cannot wait for them to bloom and to make fresh flower bouquets for the house :)

We also MULCHED everything and RAKED all the hidden leaves and PULLED all the horrible weeds. I have blisters, a sore back and dirt covering my entire body. The yard is beautiful. Emily and I want to stand at the curb and just admire it from afar.

We also bought a coffee table! It was not pretty so we sanded it and stained it :) AND we finally got around to painting/sealing the huge spool (outside table) my dad gave me :)

VERY productive weekend. VERY tired Jessica.

#91 - Learn to drive standard and actually be GOOD at it.

When I was 13 (or so) my dad had a 94 ford pickup that he told me would be mine when I was old enough to drive. It was standard and that scared me - I didn't want the truck. Of course, he eventually sold it and I really did end up wanting it and I really wanted to know how to drive it, but that never happened.

Fast forward 3 years... Summertime! I was lifeguarding (duh - don't you know me?) and one of my friends found out I wanted to learn to drive stick. I was so lucky that he just so happen to have a jeep and was willing to give me a quick lesson! I was so stoked. MY FIRST TIME EVER TO DRIVE A STANDARD. Christopher Blomberg taught me the basics. I was horrible. I stalled about every time I wanted to move forward and once I did start going, I never went faster than 10 mph. Awesome.

5 years later... I am dating a guy who drives a ZOOM ZOOM rx8 and guess what!? Its a standard. It takes me MONTHS to talk him into letting me drive it (red flag right there). He lets me take it around the block - no fun. I still stalled, but I was getting better.

Couple of months later... I go to Northgate with some friends. We take their vehicle. I end up being the DD, but guess what.. it's standard. They are way under the influence and I was able to convince them I TOTALLY know what I am doing when it comes to driving stick. As you can tell from my previous experiences, I was lying. But I really wanted to go home and was not about to let some drunkard drive me when I was perfectly capable. It took 30 minutes when it should have taken 15. I still sucked. But I did get from point A to point B without too many honks. My friends didn't realize the time difference, naturally. I confessed the next morning.

I about had it with standards. Figured I had learned everything I could. I knew all the basics and had a little practice. AND THEN last October(ish) John Fraser offers to help me conquer the dang thing. And with his NEW jeep too! OH the trust and the patience he had! I was so nervous. I knew my record wasn't great and I didn't want to ruin any part of his vehicle. He let me drive around for about 30 minutes, constantly giving me advice and feedback. I felt much more secure in driving after our little session. VERY PRODUCTIVE!

Now my moment of victory. My aunt called me a couple of weeks ago to see if I could pick her dogs up from the vet. I am practically her neighbor now and she wasn't going to make it before they closed shop. She told me to take her Xterra and they would jump right in. I get to her house and into her car just as I realize she only drives standard. I freak out for about eleven seconds. I am by myself. If I mess up no one is with me to drive this thing back. I HAVE to do this. I HAVE TO. Worst part about it was that I needed to reverse. In all my practicing I NEVER practiced that. I was too afraid. And now by MYSELF, I HAD to. Or I wasn't picking the dogs up. I took a deep breath and did it. SUCCESS. I backed-out. I drove to the vet. I turned onto a BUSY street. I went 50 mph. I stopped at stop signs. AND I DIDNT STALL!!! The whole time I am thinking of all the advice John gave me and I made it.

I can now say that I am GOOD at driving standard. I've got what it takes.

Blood. (#64)

My whole life I have hated needles. Anything and Everything SHARP for that matter. If you were holding a knife, I was on the other side of the room. Paranoia at its best. Must have been from all the scary movies that I use to love to watch and now use a night light because of.

I never really went to the Doctor's office to get blood drawn or to receive shots because I kept myself healthy or just let my immune system fight the battle alone. So, when I say that I voluntarily gave blood TODAY, you should be shocked. Jaw dropping to the floor - SHOCKED.

My school participated in a blood drive and I was able to donate a pound of blood during my off period. I went through the whole questionnaire routine and started to get pretty nervous as I headed to the chair/beds. The only thing running through my mind was my latest plasma experience and I was totally freaking out... in my mind. Perfectly clam and collected on the outside. Naturally. So I lay down, take a deep breath, and WATCH the lady stick me. I pumped my ball and watched the blood flow. Even asked a couple of questions on the equipment they were using. The whole process took about 15 minutes. Easy smeasy. They gave me free apple juice and teddy grahams too!

My arm is still very sore and hopefully it doesn't heal as a huge knot where the needle was inserted. BUT, I saved three lives! Love being the hero :)

2010 BANGS

It is safe to say my 2010 year ended in BANGS!

Bang: a loud sudden, explosive noise, such as the discharge of a gun or balloons popping.

The only thing I really asked for Christmas was my CHL. BANG. BANG! I am taking my class in January :)

Balloons. I love balloons. My mom said it was one of my first words. Popping them is SO much fun. NYE ended with a balloon drop and naturally I went around stomping them and popping them BANG! Which leads us to my next bang…

Bang: to hit or bump painfully.

In all of my balloon popping excitement I accidentally BANGED/stomped/smashed my own toes. I thought I broke them I came down on them so hard. I was getting really frustrated with this one balloon because it would pop out from under my foot as I went to stomp it. Eventually I got it – SUCCESS. Unfortunately my opposite foot was under it when I did – PAIN. BANG. Pain so bad I felt like vomiting. Kick you in the balls pain, but it was my foot. Luckily, I heeled right between my second and big toe and didn’t actually hit bone. It did bleed and I hobbled all the way home, but like any gash it is healing – infection free.

Bang: to cut the hair so as to form a fringe over the forehead.

I have had the same hairstyle for a very very very long time (except for the couple of months it was all banged off as a bob). I wanted. I needed something different. I got BANGS! Note: this is something I have always said NO to in the past because I have a pesky (horrible) cow lick above my right eye.

Well life sure doesn't wait.

It has been almost a year now since I have started my fine little project. I have loved every minute, but in all honesty it has only felt like MAYBE three months. which means I need to get on it!!

If I didn't already say so, I FINALLY signed my contract with Cy-Fair ISD. I am officially a Biology teacher, not a long term sub, at Cy Ridge High School and my students are seriously like my kids. I feel bad leaving them with a sub because I know they will make her life miserable but they are my little darlings.

(#70) I also went to a movie by myself :) while in Colorado - Tangled. Disney is the best. Hands down. Forever a fan.

and it was in 3D!!

(#41) I also got a new car!!! MAJOR life change. It is a new to me vechile and NEW in general! I was at Lauren Meador's baby shower and then went to test drive cars with Emily and just had to take home the Scion tc. It completes me. It is the perfect color too.

STUNNING.

Winter break is in ONE WEEK!!! Very exciting! and I have done TWO more things that I would have normally said NO to (#46):

1. minute to win it - cookie on head to mouth in front of faculty... completed in 10 seconds. Received a free jeans pass. Crumbs all over my face. Free chocolate chip cookie. Oh happy day.

2. participated in a pep-rally. embarrassedly danced in front of the entire student body.. and staff to "Its raining men." I shook my Ta-Tas. My students haven't let me live it down yet.

As for photo of the month - my mom held the 2nd annual christmas cookie swap last weekend and I had to go all holiday with the picture :)

I'm not quite sure if this fits into my list anywhere...

Over the past month or so I have been having extremely dorky moments, such as the one that follows:

So the unit I am currently teaching in biology is dealing with diffusion and it is constantly on my mind. Don't laugh - when you go over the same thing six times a day its hard not to constantly have it in the back of your mind.

I was invited to a premature halloween party this weekend and of course had to go. Well you know how fruit absorbs punch that it's in? And when you have oranges in a red punch you end up with funky looking oranges?? It happens. Real Life. Its diffusion. I was a little loopy and noticed this awesome fact and decided to present it to the closest ten (or so) people, or shout it actually. Most of them looked at me like WTF did she just say, but one guy smile and said "Yeah! but not osmosis!" I got soooo excited, haha, hive-fived it out as well as an outward burst of YAY! totally true! WooHoo! All the while everyone else was just like "ok, what just happened."

Yeah, Im a dork.

It rocks my socks really.

Two weeks ago? Maybe? I have been losing track of time. John took me out to an awesome little bar on Rice campus (http://valhalla.rice.edu/) with the most intellectual bathroom graffiti and an old piano. I officially had my FIRST piano lesson! It was HARD! My fingers are too proper and don't know how to relax... especially my pinky - it has english blood in it. Constantly sticks up like it's tea time. I learned the key names and a couple of cords and I practiced going up and down using proper finger placement. My hands were cramping but it was loads of fun and I got to sip on wine :)

Saying yes to something I would rather say no it is actually a pretty hard process. I get extremely anxious (on the inside - stomach knots, slight jitters, etc.) and silently freak out for about ten seconds, a VERY long time. Once I set my mind to YES I am golden and then all I have to do is complete the task at hand. I have accomplished this for the SECOND time!! I am the BOMB DIGGITY - yes you read that correctly. The bomb - diggity aka beawesome aka the shizznit aka greatness. Period.

Ok, so if you know me at all you know I HATE beer. HATE it. Dislike it so much that I did the great Aggie Ring Dunk tradition in a pitcher of MARGARITA (which I rocked... and it in turn rocked me). I cannot stand beer. It tastes like bad gag. I have had many people tell me I just haven't had the right kind of beer - truth be told, I HATE beer. You following yet?? So John taught Aubrey how to use her grill Friday night (on her list) and I decided I also wanted to knock something off the ol' list. I need to say yes to something. Bring me the Beer.

#40 - Get a teaching position for the 2010-2011 school year

How this happened is a miracle. I have been teaching swim lessons all summer and one of my moms, who works in Cy-Fair ISD, gave my resume to her principal. A day later I am called into an interview, for a science position (I haven't even taken that content area exam). That was on Friday. Monday morning Mr. Garcia calls me and wants me to teach BIOLOGY! I was freaking out. I told him to stop joking around. I was at teacher inservice the next day meeting my science team. I had a week to prepare for the first day of school - I was a mess ball (for lack of a better word). I survived! Tomorrow starts week two of school! WHOOP!!

OH... I am not officially the teacher of record. I can't be until I take my Life Science content exam and PASS. So basically I am a long term sub until then...

#16 - Kiss someone I’ve just met...

So every time there is a girls night out, the girls (aka Aubrey & Jessica) try to peer pressure me into kissing a stranger (well I guess it IS somewhat on my list... but still!). Well August 5, 2010 they got to me.

We all met up at TGI Fridays (Emily came too! YAY! but Teresita missed out again, boo!) Had some drinks, shared some gossip, and I got talked into kissing OUR WAITER. No make-out session (sorry Jessica, I know how much you wanted me to make-out with a stranger) just a peck on the lips and boom, done.

YAY! I DID IT! It helped that he was game too, haha, and his girlfriend (thanks!)

#72 - Travel somewhere by myself (and featured photos)

I recently went to Florida :) to visit Steven :) and have a short vacation from my crazy hectic life in Houston. Success!

I arrived Thursday night in Ft. Walton, Florida. Friday, while Steven was at work, I had NOTHING planned to do. So I just drove (by myself - NO GPS! ok, a really shattered iPhone - not too much help) down hwy 98 towards Panama City. (I need to add that I was crusin' in a totally awesome muscle car - a dodge challenger). I finally stopped at Grayton Beach State Park ($4 daily fee). Let me back up a little, Steven left for work at 6:30am and in order for him to give me proper direction off base, thats when I woke up (and left) as well. So when I got to the park they were closed (its like 8am by now). Luckily, they had some shindig going on and let me go in :) So NO ONE was at the beach. I had it ALL TO MYSELF!

It was so beautiful. I relaxed there for a couple of hours reading my book and taking pictures and then headed towards Panama City. I didn't go the whole way before turning down 30A. A road right on the beach lined with amazing houses and hotels and condos. It was a little crowded, but it was still close to heaven. And the shops were SOO CUTE. Mom would have loved them. And EVERYONE was riding their bikes along this road. You know the cute bikes with the baskets in the front. Yes, EVERYONE. It was something out of a movie.

I got back to base around 3pm - 8 hours of exploration on my own! WOOHOO!

Only a select few get to hear my beautiful voice belt out a song, aka Emily Greer, anyone I have had the pleasure of playing RockBand with, and of course all of Brewskis on a particular Thursday night.

It was a wonderful girls night out ( plus Kyle (and Matt), minus Teresita :( ). Started out at Chuy's and ended the night, on an off pitched high note, at Brewskis with the lovely Aubrey and Jessica. These girls totally rock my hammock. I introduced them both to the 101 in 1001 :) Jessica and I both needed to check off karaoke from our list - what better night?? It took ages for us to decide a song. Honestly, I think we were both hoping we wouldn't get to do it. Stalling. Wasting time. We finally picked "Leave the Pieces" by The Wreckers. I was sooooooo nervous. She was sooo nervous. My nerves got the best of me and I laughed a little through the song. but.... WE DID IT! and we weren't even booed!

Success.

I told Teresita I would do it again with her.

Maybe some Spice Girls?

Say YES to TEN things I'd normally say NO to...

Number One: Compete at a Lifeguard Competition.

I have been a lifeguard for 8 years now and NEVER EVER EVER have I wanted to be on a competition team. Competing makes me so anxious/nervous/worried - I pretty much go into shock minutes before I need to do an event. It is NOT a good feeling. When asked this year if I wanted to participate, I wanted to say NO - really badly. But with this list urging me on and nothing really stoping me, I SAID YES!!!! What did I have to lose? My pride, yes, but I could blame it on my fear of competing.

Luckily I was able to help judge the SuperGuard Competition (held in College Station WHOOP!) and that helped to settle my fears - somewhat. I was still totally nervous come the following sat/sun when the team competed in the Texas Open comp (held at SPLASHTOWN!)

All in all, team MADAGASGUARD (Party Giraffe Off) had a pretty fun time. No, we didn't place (our fellow co-workers from Spring placed in two events - woohoo), but we really did party giraffe-es off. AND our amazing mascot g-raffe was the bomb-diggity. YES - the BOMB-DIGGITY!!

Vegetarian for a week... no - make that two weeks

I made it through two weeks of eating NO MEAT!!! It started off as only a week, but it was way too easy and I pushed it to two weeks. I was hurting on day 8 - I REALLY wanted some chicken. Chick-Fil-A was my best friend once this whole shindig was over. So what did my diet consist of?? a LOT of pasta! haha - I know super unhealthy. I have to say though I threw in many salads and a ton of fruits and veggies. Being a vegetarian also made me step out of my box when ordering food at a restaurant. I found a new favorite at both Jason's Deli (portobello wrap) and McAlisters (basil flatbread pizza). Besides gaining a couple extra pounds from too much pasta - the two weeks were a success!!

and I still LOVE food.

(( I think a no sugar week would REALLY push my limits... maybe for my next list haha ))

I didn't take my camera out much during the month of June. I was still adjusting to living with the parents and having all of my stuff in storage and being a little unorganized and working... A LOT. The only things that brought my camera out were Caitlin's TWO dance recitals and Michelle's wedding shower (Her wedding is this weekend and there WILL be pictures of that as well). I did not take all the pictures posted below.. Emily and I handed the camera back and forth throughout the performances - but there is some crazy cool talent in them and so I decided to post them anyways :)

I took a bubble bath about TWO weeks ago and I didn't even realize it was one of my 101! Total excitement! My mom brought it to my attention haha.

So as I can remember it, It was uber relaxing and very needed. I have been working my bum into the ground and I needed a good soak. I enjoyed the bubbles for about 40 minutes and loved every second. I distinctly remember actually breaking out into song "I just want your extra time and you K-K-K-K-KISS" haha. Just like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman (one of my all time favorite movies!!)

I have passed two content exams! Math/Science 4-8 and Math 8-12 - WHOOP!

I finished my applications to KATY isd and CYFAIR isd yesterday - WHOOP WHOOP!!

This weekend is the last weekend I have to go to a Texas Teacher training - WHOOP WHOOP WHOOP!!!

There is so much excitement! Im just not looking forward to the interviews.

I can feel the employment! Its sooooo close!!!

So #28 - Find a four leaf clover... This was an item on the list that I really had no control over.

A little background:

The four-leaf clover is an uncommon variation of the common, three-leaved clover.

According to tradition, such leaves bring GOOD LUCK to their finders, especially if found accidentally. Each leaf represents something: the first is for hope, the second is for faith, the third is for love, and the fourth is for luck.

It has been estimated that there are approximately 10,000 three-leaf clovers for every four-leaf clover.

Here is the story:

Emily and I were doing yard work (hardcore yard work) because we were moving out of our college station home :( sad day. She was doing the mowing and I was weeding the front beds and trimming the bushes/trees. After about my fifth handful of weeds I realized I was clearing out clovers and remember that a four leaf clover was on my "list." So I look down and BOOM staring right at me was my lucky leaf :) In all my life I have never found a four-leaf clover and it was just sitting in my hand. I got SOOO excited. I ran inside found some newsprint and I am currently pressing it, hopefully I can make it into some kinda of bookmark :)

I am still in awe that I actually found one. WOW - thats all I can say.

Well April slipped right out from under me!! How time does fly!

Good news though - I did TWO 5k's (#56)! Woohoo! I didn't quite think I would survive the first one. I ran for S.O.S (Save Our Streets) Ministries... along with Emily, Lyndsey, Andrae, Jenna, Reece, Kelsey, Chris & Riley :) My goal was to finish in under 45 minutes and I did it in 40! Whoop. It was ridiculous though - we did the run out at Traditions in Bryan and Oh My Oh My it was HILLY! Up and down and up and down, I'm surprised I finished as quick as I did. My second 5k was for Breathe Hope (Cystic Fibrosis Foundation) the following weekend. I ran mostly with Lyndsey and Abby. And I actually ran a lot of this one - The whole first half for sure :) I'm getting better!! My goal the second go round was to beat my time from the first one.. I DID IT! The CFF run was .3 miles longer AND I finished in 39 minutes! whoop!

Also... I'm getting closer and closer to that teaching job!

AND... VEGAS weekend is in 3 WEEKS!!!!! and the Beatles LOVE! Wooooo

Saving Lives with Plasma (#62)

I donated plasma for the first time in Feb. and everything went really well! I even watched them stick me with the huge 16 gauge needle (huge breakthrough!). I did get a little bruise the next day, but I figured it wasn't too bad and I could start donating regularly. (got 20 bucks too!) Naturally, I go back, two weeks later and extremely confident. I hate a huge breakfast at Ihop and had like five glasses of water -- I was good to go basically. NOPE! I was almost done donating and I started to get light headed and nauseated. I get someones attention after like a minute and I tell them something is really wrong and I need to stop having my blood taken away from me. Then I break out in a sweat - completely drenched. One of the attendants came to take my blood pressure... 70/40 - WTF?? I was going through shock - why? I did soooo good the first time and honestly, this whole shindig was quite embarrassing. So I rested and when I felt better I went to the pay-out counter and signed out... but nope wasn't done I blacked out, still conscious, sat down and my world was spinning... they had me lay down for roughly ten minutes until I looked better and they let me go... and then I went home and slept for like two hours.

Needless to say, I will NOT be donating plasma again... that stuff is too scary for me.

Life has been keeping me on my toes, thats for sure. And I love that this project is always keeping me busy :)

I accomplished TWO of my 101 things in the past week!! I feel like super woman!

First, I gave up Facebook for a WEEK! (#48) I didn't think I would survive, but I made it. And actually I don't think I'll be that attached to it from here on out - haha. Everyone I talk to on there, I already have good communication with off line and I don't need to be on Facebook whenever I have down time. I have permanently removed the app from my phone too! SUCCESS! Life is grand haha.

Second, I completed a LGI class (LifeGuard Instructor)(#52)! I have been lifeguarding for, well... this will be my 8th summer! INSANE - so now I can teach and train students in the American Red Cross Lifeguard Program... but thats not all! I can also teach Lifeguard Management, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED Essentials, Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer, Preventing Disease Transmission, Community Water Safety, and Basic Water Rescue. It was a 30 HOUR class and I did it all this weekend! Talk about living at the pool!

January is coming to an end and its about to be the month of love – oh joys. Unfortuneately I haven’t taken my camera out as much as I would have liked to this month so I don’t have many pictures to choose from to make my “feature.” I hope, despite my short comings, that you still enjoy the thought behind the picture… I know my roommates and I enjoyed it very much.

Banana Grams – a lovely word game.

A little background information - The game consists of 144 lettered tiles that are placed face down on the playing surface. The same number of tiles are drawn by each player, and at any player's call of "Split!” All players turn over their tiles to reveal the lettered sides. Each player begins arranging the letters to form words. When a player uses up all of her tiles, s/he calls out "Peel!" and each player must draw a new tile from the pool of remaining tiles, called the "bunch."

The name "Bananagrams" is a play on the word anagrams, as one must often rearrange the words one has already formed in order to allow newly-drawn tiles to be placed into one's grid.

If at any time during play, one has a letter or letters that s/he does not wish to fit into her word arrangement, s/he can announce "Dump!" and exchange any letter for three tiles from the "bunch".

Play continues with players announcing "Peel!" when they again fit all their tiles into their crossword-style word arrangements until there are not enough remaining tiles in the "bunch" for all players to take one; at this point, the player who has placed all of her tiles into her word arrangement calls out "Bananas!" and is declared the winner if all of her words are valid upon inspection.

So ladies and gentlemen, here is our “combined” Banana Gram board.

The Challenge:

Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days

The Criteria:

Tasks must be specific (i.e. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (i.e. represent some amount of work on your part).

Why 1001 Days?

Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple challenges such as New Year's resolutions or a 'Bucket List'. The key to beating the procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks.
